The 22-year-old won gold in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time on 9:01.45 on Wednesday beating Courtney Frerichs of the U.S. and Kenya’s Hyvin Kiyeng who finished 9:04.79 and 9:05.39 respectively.
Chemutai’s victory is the third Olympic gold won by Uganda in any sport — after John Akii-Bua’s 400m hurdles win in 1972 and Stephen Kiprotich’s victory in the 2012 marathon.
