The long wait for an edit button on Twitter is finally coming to an end!

The company confirmed Tuesday that it is working on an edit button that would allow users to change tweets after they have been posted.

This announcement came a day after Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk revealed that he owns a 9.2% stake in the social media site making him Twitter’s largest shareholder.

Musk tweeted out a poll asking if users wanted an edit button. However, the Twitter Comm account shared that its decision was not based on the poll.

“yes, we’ve been working on an edit feature since last year!” said the company on Tuesday

“no, we didn’t get the idea from a poll”

According to a video shared, the edit button would appear in the dropdown menu on an already-published tweet, alongside the delete and pin buttons.

The social media site first teased the edit button on April 1st via its official page and no, it wasn’t a joke.

Apparently, the edit button has been one of the most requested features from Twitter users as per Jay Sullivan, the company’s VP of consumer product.

“We’ve been exploring how to build an Edit feature in a safe manner since last year and plan to begin testing it within @TwitterBlue Labs in the coming months” he said

While Twitter founder Jack Dorsey has not publicly commented on the proposed edit button yet, he shared his support for Musk joining the board. “I’m really happy Elon is joining the Twitter board! He cares deeply about our world and Twitter’s role in it.”
