The Umbrella Academy will finally be making its return to Netflix for the third season!
It’s been nearly two years after the show’s second season premiered in 2020 and on Sunday, Showrunner Steve Blackman announced at SXSW festival in Austin that the superhero series is set to premiere on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, on Netflix.
In addition to announcing the Season 3 premiere date, the streaming service also released a short tense teaser video and an official synopsis for the third season.
According to the official Season 3 synopsis, here’s what is ahead for the Hargreeves: “Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone’s concerns. Navigating challenges, losses and surprises of their own — and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the Universe (something they may have caused) — now all they need to do is convince Dad’s new and possibly better family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong. Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?”
The third season cast will also feature Emmy Raver-Lampman, Ritu Arya, Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Genesis Rodriguez, Jake Epstein, Colm Feore, Cazzie David, and Javon “Wanna” Walton.
News that the streaming service had ordered the third season was announced in November 2020 as per PEOPLE. This came just months after the second season of the series ranked as the third-most watched Netflix series in its first week, according to data released from Nielsen.
