Picture meeting an old friend you last met in your early years as teenagers, twenty two years down the road you reconnect. This is the same feeling Matrix fans all over the globe are having at the moment.

After releasing the first Matrix movie in 1999, and the first two sequels both released in 2003, Warner Bros. recently dropped the first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections, a long-awaited fourth film in the series, which is set to be released in theaters and available for streaming on December 22, 2021.

According to Screen Rant, the trailer for Matrix Resurrections poses more questions than it answers. “Could the new sequel be set in a world where “The Matrix” was just a movie?” writes the outlet.

The franchise is known for having a mind-bending complex plot, and the fourth installment looks to follow up on that tradition.

Even after the release of the action-packed three-minute trailer, the plot of the fourth Matrix film is still not known. The trailer features charater Neo back in the Matrix and seemingly suffering from amnesia.

“Am I crazy?” asks Reeves’ Neo. “We don’t use that word in here,” says Harris’ therapist.

Neo comes in contact with Trinity in a cafe: “Have we met?” she asks Neo.

The film, which is just a few months away from its release, was initially expected to premiere in 2022. However, Warner Bros. moved the release date to December 2021, which has had fans of the franchise super excited.

Original cast members Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Daniel Bernhardt, and Jada Pinkett Smith are confirmed to return and reprise their roles. Laurence Fishburne, however, is said to not be returning as Morpheus.
