Harnaaz Sandhu of India wins Miss Universe 2021

Indian model Harnaaz Sandhu was on Sunday (Dec. 12) crowned the 70th Miss Universe in a ceremony hosted by Comedian Steve Harvey at Universe Dome in Eilat, Israel.

The 21-year-old model was crowned by former Miss Universe Andrea Meza of Mexico as her successor at the end of the event making this India’s first victory in 21 years, and it’s third in the history of the pageant with Lara Dutta being the last Indian to win the prize back in 2000.

Sandhu beat 79 other contestants with Nadia Ferreira from Paraguay emerging as the first runner-up, while Miss South Africa, Lalela Mswane was the second runner-up.

“It was a once in a lifetime experience,” Sandhu said. “The last three weeks have been a dream. I hope to serve the global community as best as I can during the coming year.”

Sandhu is no stranger to beauty pageants. She started her beauty pageant journey with Times Fresh Face Miss Chandigarh back in 2017 then later won Miss Max Emerging Star India 2018 and Femina Miss India Punjab 2019 before she was crowned Miss Universe India 2021 in October.

The model is currently pursuing her Masters degree in Public Administration. She has also starred in various Punjabi films such as Yaara Diyan Poo Baran and Bai Ji Kuttange.
