Britney Spears announced on Sunday, Sept. 12, that she is engaged to boyfriend Sam Asghari after dating for nearly five years.
The singer made the announcement via her Instagram account when she posted a video in which she flashed a sparkling ring engraved with the word “lioness”.
“I can’t fucking believe it 💍💍💍💍💍💍❣️!!!!!!” Spears captioned the video.
In the video, Asghari asks, “Do you like it?” An enthusiastic Spears responds, “Yes.”
Asghari also shared the happy news on his account, sharing a photo of himself and the “Toxic” singer kissing as she holds up her ring finger.
The news comes only days after the pop star’s father filed a petition to end the conservatorship that has controlled Spears’ personal life and career for over a decade.
In a testimony during a conservatorship hearing in Los Angeles court on June 23, Spears made it clear that she wanted to marry and have a child with Asghari.
Asghari’s manager, Brandon Cohen, confirmed news of the engagement to PEOPLE.
“The couple made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication and love expressed to them,” Cohen said.
Page Six reports that the personal trainer popped the question at Spears’ home with a ring that has a 4-carat round brilliant stone in a platinum cathedral setting, enhanced with a floating solitaire design.
Spears, 39, met Asghari, 27, on the set of the Slumber Party music video in 2016.
The pop star was previously married to Kevin Federline, with whom she shares custody of two sons, aged 14 and 15. She was also briefly married to childhood friend Jason Alexander in 2004.
